If math class at school leaves you wanting more, join our team math circle! Math circle will delve deep into problem solving techniques. We will study that many approaches can be used to solve one problem. Our goal is to find the creative side of problem solving. We will approach unusual topics and difficult problems with the philosophy that not every path to an answer is clear at the beginning. Topics will include modular arithmetic, base arithmetic, unusual geometry, properties of prime numbers, and many other diverse lines of inquiry. The “team” part means that we will compete in a number of problem solving competitions, including the Math Olympiads (MOEMS), the AMC8 and AMC10, and Purple Comet! Math Meet.
In addition to pure mathematics, both classes will explore a number of programming topics in Scratch, Python, and Arduino C that relate to our studies.
Placement is generally determined by grade, but our age groups are flexible and can be suited to the experience of the student. We would be happy to discuss your child’s ideal level and find the right fit.
